Piestewa Peak is named for Lori Piestewa, the first female American killed in combat.
Piestewa Peak Summit Trail is a 2.2 mile, 1151 elevation gain, heavily trafficked out and back trail located in the heart of Phoenix and features beautiful wildflowers. This trail is only recommended for very experienced adventurers.
I used to hike this trail on my birthday every year, with the goal of beating my age in minutes to the summit. Once I passed 40 years, this became too easy of a task.
