Guatemala Protests Travel Delays and Other Issues for Visitors Trying to Reach Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and Xela
Roads are impeding passage into Antigua, Lake Atitlan, Xela, and other Guatemalan cities.
Roads are closed, and shuttle services are few, operating largely at night between major tourist locations.
ATMs frequently run out of money, banks operate on very limited hours, major grocery chains are out of food, and local markets are open with limited options.
The protests are peaceful, and travelers should not be concerned. The biggest concern is getting from Guatemala City to ultimate destinations, and in some circumstances, people attempting to exit Guatemala have the same problem.
