Lake Atitlan Boat Schedule, while there are no roads that circle the lake, villages can be reached by shuttle boats called lanchas that provide transportation from village to village in and around the lake.

Panajachel located three hours from Guatemala City and 2.5 hours from Antigua is considered the gateway to Lake Atitlan. Panajachel sits on the northeast shore of the Lake and is the transport hub for the whole area, you can literally travel anywhere from Pana.

Boat services start around 7:00 am with the last boat departing Panajachel around 7:00 pm. The last boat departing San Pedro is 5:00 pm. Boats depart approximately every 20–30 minutes. Private lanchas are available from most villages around Lake Atitlán to just about any other lake destination.

Keep in mind that early mornings on the lake are typically calm, while wind is common late morning and afternoon making for a more adventurous boat trips.

We recommend that you carry the appropriate amount of money for the lanchas. Boat captains may or may not have sufficient change. Visit a Lake Atitlan Bank and they can exchange your larger denominations of money for you.

The village of San Pedro La Laguna on Lake Atitlan is one of our favorite villages on the Lake. San Pedro in its earlier years was the home for many hippie travelers-that was 20 years ago.

Today, San Pedro still remains a destination for the younger travelers and backpackers that visit Lake Atitlan.
