What to Wear in Guatemala Christmas | Ethical Fashion Guatemala
Guatemala for Christmas, Travelers planning a Christmas vacation in Guatemala always asks “What to Wear in Guatemala for Christmas.” Guatemala Weather spring-like during the holiday season, well actually year-round.
Temperatures are in the high 70’s during the day and can be in the low 60’s or even high 50’s in the evening. For us locals it’s warm, we wear Shorts and T-shirts during this time of year. No rain so leave your umbrella home, the rainy season passed.
Evenings can be cooler and a long-sleeved top with jeans is most desirable to remain comfortable. If your planning an early morning hike or a trip across the Lake to one of the 11 Mayan villages, wear a top you can take off and put in your backpack.
Guatemala at Christmas is stunning for travelers to experience the Mayan Culture of Guatemala as they prepare a Mayan Christmas celebration. Markets fill with all types of traditional decorations yes including those lights we see in the US that only appear to last one season.
Homes decorated with pine needles at the front doors, colored sawdust, and mostly fruits used to offer up the Guatemala Christmas spirits and yes Christmas Tamales, turkey and other traditional dishes are prepared.
Christmas Eve is a spectacle in Fireworks at Midnight around the villages and shorelines of Lake Atitlan. No matter where your staying at midnight head to the shore and watch as each village lights up the skies.
Churches also take on the look of Christmas inside and out, I often enjoy making the rounds to local villages around Panajachel and check out the churches at night.
You can also consider purchasing some amazing handmade clothing from the many Artisans around Lake Atitlan.
Merry Christmas
